Risk warning

Last updated Oct 13, 2026

Every product on Coinish can lose you money. Some can lose it very quickly. This page explains the main risks in plain language. It’s general information, not advice about your own situation.

CFDs and leveraged forex

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Leverage means you only put down a small deposit (the margin) to open a much larger position. With 30:1 leverage, a 1% move against you wipes out about 30% of your margin. Prices can also jump past your stop-loss when markets open or after major news, so you may close at a worse price than you set.

Most retail traders lose money on CFDs. Regulated providers in the UK and Europe must publish the share of their retail accounts that lose money. Where a provider publishes it, we show it on that provider’s page.

  • Overnight costs. Holding a leveraged position overnight usually costs a daily financing charge, which adds up on long trades.
  • Margin calls. If your losses eat into your margin, the provider can close your positions automatically.
  • Negative balance protection. Retail clients of UK, EU and Australian providers can’t lose more than the money in their account. Offshore entities may not offer this, which is one reason we show which company would actually open your account.

Australia

CFDs and margin FX are complex, leveraged products with a high risk of losing money. This is general information only and does not consider your objectives, financial situation or needs. Read the provider's Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) before deciding.

United States

Retail forex trading involves a high level of risk and is not suitable for all investors. Leverage can work against you as well as for you, and you can lose more than expected. CFDs are not available to US residents.

Shares and ETFs

The value of investments can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you invest. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.

Shares you buy outright don’t carry leverage, but single companies can fall sharply or fail. Buying shares listed abroad adds currency risk, and currency conversion fees can reduce your returns.

Crypto

Cryptoassets are highly volatile and largely unregulated in some countries. You could lose all the money you invest, and you may not be protected by a compensation scheme.

Crypto prices can swing by double digits in a day. Exchanges can be hacked, freeze withdrawals or fail, and crypto you hold with an exchange may not be protected the way bank deposits or shares are. Crypto CFDs combine these risks with leverage.

Before you open an account

  • Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
  • Check which company and regulator would hold your money. Our broker pages show this for each country.
  • Read the provider’s own risk disclosure and fee schedule.
  • Try a demo account first if the provider offers one.
