What to check before you open an account in United Arab Emirates
- Search the company name on the VARA and FSRA (ADGM) registers (vara.ae and adgm.com).
- Check which company your contract is with. Crypto.com, for example, onboards residents of the United Arab Emirates through Foris DAX Middle East FZE (VARA VASP licence VL/23/10/003 (Dubai)), and the name on the account-opening documents should match the list.

What must crypto marketing in the UAE tell you?
VARA's marketing rules apply to any crypto marketing in, or aimed at, the UAE. An ad for a virtual asset can't tell you to buy it. It has to carry a prominent warning that virtual assets can lose some or all of their value and are extremely volatile, and say clearly that you could lose everything you put in, with no financial protection. Paid promotions have to be labelled as paid, and any sign-up incentive needs VARA's approval first.
VARA licenses virtual-asset firms across Dubai's mainland and free zones, except the DIFC, which the DFSA regulates. Under the same rules, a promotion may not suggest that an investment is safe or that returns are guaranteed.
