Forex rules in the United Arab Emirates

Local licence required

Providers need a UAE licence: the Capital Market Authority (formerly SCA) onshore, or the DFSA (Dubai's DIFC) / FSRA (Abu Dhabi's ADGM) in the financial free zones. An offshore entity introduced by a UAE-licensed firm is not itself UAE-licensed.

Forex in the United Arab Emirates: what to know

What to check before you open an account in United Arab Emirates

  • Search the company name on the DFSA, CMA (UAE) and FSRA (ADGM) registers (dfsa.ae, uaecma.gov.ae and adgm.com).
  • Check which company your contract is with. IG, for example, onboards residents of the United Arab Emirates through IG (DIFC branch) (DFSA licence F001780), and the name on the account-opening documents should match the list.

Is forex trading legal in the United Arab Emirates?

Yes, with a licensed provider.

What is the best forex broker in the United Arab Emirates?

By Coinish Score, IG (76/100, Editor Rating 4.0/5), through IG (DIFC branch) (DFSA licence F001780). Saxo (76) and Capital.com (69) follow. The score rates the company that would serve you in the United Arab Emirates, so the same brand can rank differently in another country.

How much forex leverage can a UAE retail client get?

That depends on who licenses the broker. In the Dubai International Financial Centre, the DFSA's retail CFD rules have applied since December 2021. Their minimum margins cap leverage at 30:1 on major currency pairs, down from 50:1, and at 20:1 on minor pairs. Negative balance protection means you can't lose more on CFD positions than the money in your trading account. Clients who qualify and choose to be treated as Professional aren't covered by these limits.

8 of the 11 brokers here are DFSA-licensed (IG, Saxo, XTB and 5 more), so these limits apply to them. The others are licensed by CMA (UAE) and FSRA (ADGM).
